I am prescribed....

Umur dah semakin meningkat...

Physiotens tablets contain the active ingredient moxonodine, which is a type of medicine known as a centrally acting antihypertensive. It is used to lower blood pressure. (NB. Moxonidine is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.)

Moxonidine is thought to work by stimulating receptors in the brain called imidazoline receptors. When moxonidine acts on these receptors it causes the blood vessels to relax and widen.

Moxonidine is also thought to have an effect on other receptors called alpha-2 receptors. These receptors are found in the brain. By binding to these receptors moxonidine prevents the release of other chemicals in the brain that would normally act to increase blood pressure.

By these mechanisms, moxonidine causes a lowering of blood pressure.

Amlodipine is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), certain kinds of chest pain (chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina, coronary artery disease). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Relieving symptoms of angina can increase your ability to exercise and perform strenuous work.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. It may relieve the symptoms of angina by relaxing narrowed blood vessels and lowering blood pressure so that the heart muscle does not have to work as hard to pump blood through your body.

RENITEC * (enalapril maleate, MSD) is the maleate salt of enalapril, a derivative of two amino-acids, L-alanine and L-proline. Following oral administration, enalapril is rapidly absorbed and then hydrolyzed to enalaprilat, which is a highly specific, long-acting, non-sulphydryl angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor.

RENITEC is indicated in the treatment of all grades of essential hypertension, and in renovascular hypertension. It may be used alone as initial therapy or concomitantly with other antihypertensive agents, especially diuretics.

RENITEC is also indicated in the treatment and prevention of heart failure.

Atenolol / Tenormin
Tenormin tablets, Tenormin LS tablets, Tenormin syrup and Tenormin injection contain the active ingredient atenolol, which is a type of medicine called a beta-blocker. (NB. Atenolol is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Beta-blockers work by blocking beta receptors that are found in various parts of the body.

Blocking beta receptors prevents the action of two chemicals, called noradrenaline and adrenaline, which are produced naturally by the body. These are often referred to as the 'fight or flight' chemicals, because they are responsible for the body's reaction to stressful situations.

Beta receptors are found in the heart. When they are blocked by atenolol the heart is made to beat more slowly and with less force. This reduces the pressure at which the blood is pumped out of the heart and around the body. This in turn reduces blood pressure, which means that atenolol can be used to treat high blood pressure. It also reduces the energy used by the heart to pump blood around the body, and so reduces the heart's need for oxygen, which means it can also be used in the management of angina.

Angina is chest pain that occurs because the heart does not get enough oxygen to meet demand, such as when doing exercise. Atenolol reduces the workload of the heart and so decreases its demand for oxygen. This helps to prevent attacks of angina.

Slowing the heart rate helps to control abnormal heart beats called arrhythmias. Arrhythmias can seriously undermine the pumping action of the heart and result in inefficient blood circulation around the body. Atenolol corrects the abnormal heart beat and thus can be used to treat arrhythmias.

Atenolol has also been shown to reduce the damage to the heart if taken in the period shortly following a heart attack. This decreases the likelihood of having a further heart attack and lowers the risk of continued illness and death.

Methyldopa and hydrochlorothiazide combination is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.

Methyldopa works by controlling nerve impulses along certain nerve pathways. As a result, it relaxes blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide helps reduce the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine. These actions help to lower blood pressure.

This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.
